Motivation
Our recent visit to the Yonderosa amplified our enthusiasm for this project. Winter reveals yet another facet of the beauty that abounds here.
Winter intensifies the quiet and solitude
The challenges of Winter eased with a little fun.
The sunrise view from the porch.
The cabin came about in part because of my love/hate relationship with the trailer. The advantages of the cabin - even unfinished - became more apparent during our visit. My current favorite feature of the cabin is the porch. It welcomes and shelters without excuding the scenery. Sitting on the porch, sipping a warm beverage is proof that LIFE IS GOOD! As a practical matter it's place to kick off the snow, it protects the entry and it (greatly) extends the living space -even in winter. We are more motivated than ever to get it done!

Looks like you could almost go sledding on that snow! Maybe have the other half give you a little pull?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures, my friend!
While I haven't tried I'm sure the sledding possibilities abound. The disks sure made transporting supplies and gear back and forth easier. I wish I would have thought use it myself.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful. I love our land any time of year - green and full of promise or resting and brown in the winter - it doesnt matter!
ReplyDeleteCongrats and Enjoy!
Never imagined I'd find myself using "peaceful" and "adventure" in the same sentence, but this beautiful scenery combines both!
ReplyDeleteWow, your header photo is breath-taking. Looks like you're in a beautiful place with a wonderful view.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my site and putting me on to yours! Nice tour through your beginnings. Will you be living there full time at some point?
Nice place man, I am jealous.
ReplyDeleteSpent four years in E. Washington (Republic), there is a constant low-grade desire to go back. The trouble is, I really like it here too.
So I will live vicariously through your blog.
Thanks for taking the time.
Appreciate your visit. I see we have the same love of the countryside and mountains. I love our place in the mountains and escape there whenever I can. I love our front porch too. I watch the red tailed hawks fly overhead and the turkey vultures playful air fights. Can't get any better than that...debbie
ReplyDeleteIn planning my own small cabin I stumbled upon your blog. Would you care to comment on your cost outlay for materials (excluding labor or tools) up to this point? I'd really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteD-Model, We have about $3,500 (Yankee) into it so far including permits, fees and sales tax (~20% of the total) - from Concrete footings to roofing. Still have to buy siding, exterior trim, decking and windows.

ReplyDeleteBarring unexpected obligations it looks like I'll be back at the Yonderosa soon. The delivery and installation of exterior finish materials. A neighbor reported that the snow has melted. Of course I'll try to have some fun and take lots of pictures too. I'm very excited to get back!!!
