Part 2 Wildfire 2015

A few video clips I took during the quieter moments during the fire.

It was a very interesting few weeks. Months later I still don't think I've processed it all. VERY hard to see neighbors' places burned. Met some great folks during the fire. The mettle in folks is in plain view during such times. People do what they are able/willing to do. Some do better than others.

Our valley even got some media attention.

Cabins and Wildfire

2015 - the year we'll remember the fire.

Smoke and fire up the hill from the cabin.

The forest above the cabin

Just up the hill

LOTS of destruction nearby

NOT having fun.

Always lots to do, evacuating a neighbor.

Hauling  fuel for the generators

It came close, there were three nights I was sure we'd lose it. We were blessed.

More September Pictures

This blog's main focus is the destination, but the journey is pretty nice too...

The view just east of Washington Pass. This is the gateway to my little piece of Heaven on Earth.
One of many breathtaking peaks along the way.

This time of year the Elk Bulls gather up their harems. I stopped to get a few pictures of this band. I gave a few calls hoping to get him to come closer but all he did was stand up and bugle and chuckle back - he could see I was no threat to his girls and had none of my own that he could steal. A bit further down the road there was an even bigger herd bull with a harem of about the same size. He was a lot more agitated so we didn't stick around and let him go about his business. Just another part of why September is my favorite time of year.

Last month there was a 10,000 acre fire that burned right up to and across the Highway. The firefighters did a good job saving structures, orchards and livestock. There were a number of spots east of Loup Loup that the fire was very evident and spectacular. Would have liked to had more time to stop for pictures.

Fire Pictures

On July 27th a lightning struck trees near the cabin, smoldered overnight and blew into flame the next day. The first four pictures were sent by neighbor DP and the last by neighbor ST.

The Trees to the far left were the ones hit.

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT!
I bet that was quite a thunderclap to go along with the lightning. I guess mother nature needed to remind me as to who is in charge of this project. If she happens to read this blog I just want to say, "Message received!"

June 2009 - visit

Anytime at the Yonderosa is a blessing, even a short visit. We arrived Friday night and we were greeted by a thunderstorm complete with HEAVY rain, and lightning strikes all around us. It delayed our unpacking but the show was quite spectacular from the shelter of the porch.

Moose visit - Repost, see previous entry

The nearby State Land is being logged. The Forester I spoke with said they are almost giving the logs away. Because of mill closures these logs had to be hauled to mill over 3 hours away.

Over Memorial day weekend a visitor left a campfire burning that ignited several spots on the 20 acre parcel NEXT to us! WAY too close for comfort!

The wild strawberries were just starting to get ripe. Pea sized but SWEET!

The Temperatures reached the mid to upper 80's so Kirby found a way to stay cool.

Yarrow prefers napping in the new Shower/Kybo room...

Finally photographic evidence that Bigfoot exists. See him up there on the mountainside right next to the tree?
